N/AFor more than 40 years, D-A-D has been a fountain of great ideas, crazy stunts and undiluted, irresistible rock, and right now Denmark’s best rock band is in better shape than ever. In 2027 they will play just one show in Denmark: at COPENHELL 2027.
It all began on March 3, 1984 in Copenhagen. Back then they were called Disneyland After Dark and played unpretentious cowpunk with ponchos, cacti, cow skulls and hay bales on stage. Their breakthrough came in 1989 with No Fuel Left For The Pilgrims and Sleeping My Day Away. The album sold more than 150,000 copies in the US alone, and the band signed with Warner Brothers and changed their name to D-A-D after Disney objected to the old one. At home in Denmark, they paved the way for a whole new wave of Danish rock.
The hits have kept coming ever since. Bad Craziness, Everything Glows, Evil Twin, Something Good and many more have turned D-A-D into a living jukebox with a catalogue of enduring songs and a loyal audience that spans generations.
Their anniversary year of 2024 was one of the biggest in the band’s history. The National Museum of Denmark honoured them with the exhibition Danmark After Dark, and their 13th album, Speed Of Darkness, became one of the strongest of their career. It went to the top of the Danish charts, gave the band their best chart position in Sweden in 30 years and became their most successful album ever in Germany. The year ended with a sold-out anniversary show for 17,000 people at Royal Arena in Copenhagen, and the live album from that night, Live From The Arena, went straight in at number 1.
In 2025, they played sold-out shows in Australia and rocked some of Europe’s biggest festivals: Sweden Rock, Hellfest and Wacken Open Air. And even after four decades, the rule is the same as always. As drummer Laust Sonne puts it: “Whether there are 300 or 30,000 people at a show doesn’t matter. D-A-D plays for the people who came, and we always give a 100 percent!”
