WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Let us dispel a myth right away: attending COPENHELL does not require any kind of uniform. There is no dress code, your outfit will not be checked by the door staff, and there is no committee of bearded metal fans just inside the entrance judging your look before letting you proceed onto the site.
At COPENHELL you will encounter people in everything from denim vests beautifully decorated with 30 years’ worth of carefully selected and hand-sewn patches to people in pink summer dresses, football shirts, Viking costumes, bridal veils and all manner of other creative creations. It is like a baroque fashion show in hell.
This diversity is a big part of COPENHELL’s charm, and everyone is welcome at the festival regardless of what they choose to wear, as long as it doesn’t offend anyone’s modesty too much (yes, we’re looking at you with the far-too-small thong on the COPENHELL Metal Cruise, which has left us with permanent scarring on our retinas…). We always encourage people not to actively traumatise others with their festival outfit choices – or lack thereof – and we always look forward to seeing people show up in cool and fun attire.
So just wear whatever you feel most comfortable in, and rest assured that no one will judge you for your clothing, whether you arrive in an Armani suit or dressed as an orc. At COPENHELL, there’s room for everyone!
Here are some good practical – and slightly parental – tips you might want to factor into your festival wardrobe:
It might sound obvious, but it matters, because COPENHELL doesn’t take place on a sandy beach promenade but in front of an old shipyard with concrete surfaces, tiled areas and woodland ground. Over the festival’s four days you will be standing and walking an awful lot, and if you also end up being very physically active at concerts, you can rule out flip-flops and high heels from the start. A pair of shoes that you have already broken in, with a sturdy and cushioned sole, can make a real difference to your festival experience.
The unpredictable Danish summer is known for occasionally delivering three different seasons in a single day, so a warm layer can work wonders, especially in the evenings. And if you forget to bring one, you can always find great COPENHELL hoodies in various designs in our merchandise store on the grounds, so you can truly feel like part of the metal family.
It officially never rains at COPENHELL, of course, but if you want to be extra well-prepared for all kinds of weather, we recommend bringing a thin rain jacket or poncho that fits easily in a small bag (you can also buy these at the festival). Note that umbrellas are not permitted at the festival (they’re incredibly annoying to stand behind at concerts).
