When COPENHELL Freezes Over presents IKONIK, SYL, ASHES OF BILLY, SWARTZHEIM, ARCHANGEL and PERSECUTOR in VEGA, Copenhagen, Denmark on January 27, 2024.
For the 11th time, up to 30 international industry representatives are presented with some of Denmark’s best and sharpest new bands from the hard and heavy genres by COPENHELL at When COPENHELL Freezes Over 2024.
Through more than a decade, COPENHELL and MXD have helped several Danish rock and metal bands across the country’s borders and out into the rest of the world with record deals and international representation by agencies and managements, as well as increased international attention to the Danish music scene.
As recently as last winter, a lot of industry representatives were convinced by the young act Nakkeknaekker’s performance, which resulted in a record deal-, international European booking representation and American representation.
The formula has worked as intended over the years: Gather a strong line-up of local bands on their home ground and let a group of international industry representatives experience them live. COPENHELL, MXD and VEGA have helped with coordination, strong presentations and marketing, as well as speed meetings and networking, which has turned When COPENHELL Freezes Over into the optimal platform for spreading hard rock and heavy metal from Denmark to the rest of the world.
When COPENHELL Freezes Over 2024 takes place on January 27, 2024 – tickets are available here.
COPENHELL FREEZES OVER 2024 LINE-UP:
IKONIK
Katrine Wachmann from Copenhagen is behind the new solo project IKONIK, which, inspired by the early 2010s and in a partnership with Mirza Radonjica og Fredrik Møller, brings forward a fresh and genre-defying interpretation of the rock and metal genres. The band has a bright future ahead of it with the immensely powerful vocals, groundshaking guitar riffs and engaging songwriting on the strong first single “Wall of Stone”, which is made available on streaming services through Prime Collective.
SYL
SYL plays energetic and chaotic post-punk – a wild amalgamation of punk, noise rock, hardcore and other influences. Last year’s debut release ’Alt Godt’ was characterised by great sonic variation, well-written songs and lyrical messages delivered with strong conviction. Also, the band does much more than just anger and indignation – the song ”Omsorg”, for instance, was used in a short film about assault and the importance of respecting other people’s grief earlier in 2023.
ASHES OF BILLY
Stylistically, the teenage trio ASHES OF BILLY hovers somewhere in between grunge, heavy rock, metal and punk. Their role models span from the Danish heroes Dizzy Mizz Lizzy, Kashmir, Psyched Up Janis, D-A-D and H.E.R.O. across Seattle’s grunge scene and to the classic heavy giants. The band was founded in 2021, and they released their first EP, ‘Playdate’, in the autumn of 2022 – and they are now ready to lay down a proper beating upon the When COPENHELL Freezes Over audience.
SWARTZHEIM
A snarling, aggressive crossover metal band that consists of six young guys from Jutland. Their debut ’Clinical Nightmare’ and the EP ’Sympathy’ show great potential, and the band delivers crackling energy live and a wall of sound with no less than three guitarists on board.
ARCHANGEL
ARCHANGEL has arisen from the ashes of the disbanded group Impalers, and their hard-hitting and melodic songs creep through an inferno of blood and into the listener’s skull like a murderous nightmare that you will never awake from again. Their debut album ’Total Dark Sublime’ seduces with energetic and aggressive metal-punk atmosphere, enormous arena rock choruses and memorable and catchy riffs.
PERSECUTOR
The Danish thrash metal purveyors from PERSECUTOR have just released their second full-length album, ’Vendetta’, where they build upon their style of pure rage, modern melodic metal, varied songwriting and lyrical themes from the darkest pits of the human mind. The band is already renowned and loved for their unpretentious and entertaining live shows.
