COPENHELL COMPLETES THIS YEAR’S MUSIC LINE-UP
COPENHELL completes the 2024 line-up with SORT SOL, RIVAL SONS, KERRY KING, 311 and TERMINALIST. 75 bands are now ready to entertain and impress the audience throughout four wild and atmospheric festival days on June 19-22.
In a Danish music context, COPENHELL presesents a completely unique and historical concert this year when the legends from SORT SOL visit the festival on Saturday evening. Sparks will fly in the summer night when Danish punk rock’s grand old men go on stage with a more than 40 year long and versatile career behind them.
SORT SOL has been an important pillar of the Danish rock scene ever since the early days in the punk band Sods in the late ’70s, up through the ’80s towards their great mainstream breakthrough with the hit album ‘Glamourpuss’ in 1992 – and further on towards 2001’s ‘Snakecharmer’ and the following long hiatus before the band returned to form with their most recent album, ‘Stor langsom stjerne’ in 2017.
Vocalist Steen Jørgensen has participated in almost all of the COPENHELL festivals since the beginning. He has noted that the festival’ music profile has developed through the years and that many other great Danish bands have played there, and he looks forward to finally experiencing all of it from the stage. ”Right now is the perfect time for os. We gave it all we had in 2017-2018, but we haven’t played live since then. That creates an inner hunger – and of course also some big expectations. The exciting thing about this concert is that we are not currently touring with a new album that we need to sell. This is an exclusive one-time concert only for COPENHELL’s audience where we have total artistic freedom to create a very special experience just for them.”
Through the decades, SORT SOL’s music has moved from raw and unpolished punk to a more rock-based style with brave experimentation with electronic elements, but their expression has always been dark and dystopic. For several years, the band had a rehearsal room and recording studio in an old underground NATO submarine station close to the festival site and from close by, they have witness COPENHELL develop a strong ‘Copenhagen identity’ and a broad music profile within the hard and heavy genres, which is a great fit for the band’s sound, according to guitarist Lars Top-Galia:
”Will SORT SOL’s special space be able to exist in COPENHELL’s special space? Will those two elements become one? I think that is a really interesting experiment, as it creates tension and a vibration that can move people. We have played everywhere, from the olympic stadium in St. Petersburg in Russia in 1989 – where we were declared unwanted and ordered to leave the country! – to Central Asia and countless small punk clubs all over the world, so nothing is impossible for us. For us, this is not a question about trying to fit into COPENHELL – but a question about the COPENHELL audience getting to experience SORT SOL firing on all cylinders. We will attempt to to give people an absolutely unforgettable concert this summer.”

Aside from SORT SOL, the COPENHELL 2024 music line-up is completed with RIVAL SONS, KERRY KING, 311 and TERMINALIST, bringing the total amount of bands at this year’s festival to 75.
RIVAL SONS ranks among of today’s greatest rock acts, and they now make their return to COPENHELL! The band’s modern sound clearly draws upon the classic rock giants and proves that good, old-fashioned rock ’n’ roll is very much alive and kicking. These Californians’ string of great songs and strong, charismatic live performances always guarantee great concert experiences, and the audience can look forward to intense and authentic rock of the highest quality this summer!
After the disbandment of the renowned thrash band Slayer, it was only a question of time before the band’s distinctive guitarist announced his new solo project: This year, KERRY KING will visit COPENHELL with an entirely new band consisting of drummer Paul Bostaph (Slayer), guitarist Phil Demmel (Machine Head), bassist Kyle Sanders (Hellyeah) and not least singer Mark Osegueda (Death Angel). The found describes the new band’s sound as a refinement of Slayer’s, and their first single – ’Idle Hands’ – is a true thrash banger that shows that the new group are dead serious about living up their heritage.
The Nebraska band 311 plays very alternative rock! Their music is an odd melting pot of rock, reggae, hip-hop and funk with a hard edge, which has developed in lots of interesting directions and trampled all music conventions since the early ’90s. Through the years, the band has achieved great success with their unique genre fusion, cheerful sound and energetic live performances and an amazingly dedicated audience, and their sound has been an important source of inspiration for countless bands after them.
The critically acclaimed Danish hyper thrashers from TERMINALIST play ambitious and hard-hitting metal with roots in technical ‘80s thrash and a good sprinkle of progressive inspiration and black metal atmosphere. Their music is characterised by razor-sharp and twisting riffs in a detailed and complex sound with a constant focus on hard drive and tight technical skill.
